Mommy Rant

Here is a list of acceptable (and encouraged!) things to say to a pregnant lady:

1. "You look wonderful!"

2. "How are you feeling?"

3. "Is there anything I can help you with?"

Please do not say anything to me related to breast-feeding, and how if I am not able to/choose not to breastfeed, that makes me less of a mom. If you are a mom who has been able to successfully breastfeed, or have struggled with it, then I will gladly listen to any and all advice you have to offer.

When you tell a nervous first-time mom that if she chooses not to breastfeed, she isn't holding up to some "mothering" standard, you are not making yourself look good. It actually makes you look like an insenstive jerk. (Double that if you're a man). There are a whole plethora of reasons why women cannot and choose not to breastfeed.

So, if anyone's interested, I plan on trying to breastfeed. I have no idea if I will actually be able to when the time comes, but it is my goal to do it for a few months. If I can't do it, or end up choosing not to do it, please do not label me "less of a mom." If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all. :)
